Recently Hyundai Showcased the IONIQ 5 at India gate in three different colors and attracted lots of media attention. Also it will be more affordable than its sister Kia EV6, Which is possible because IONIQ 5 is CKD (completely knocked down) unit, unlike the CBU(Complete built unit) EV6. Another reason is Kia offering in rear-wheel drive and all wheel-drive configurations, whereas Hyundai offers only in rear-wheel drive version.
it won many awards including 2020 world car of the year, world design of the year, and world electric car of the year and many more.
Exterior Design
Hyundai made this car design as close as possible to the original 45 EV Concept Design, which was revealed in the 2019 Frankfurt motor show. The front headlight has Pixelated look, and plain body work with subtle lines across the front hood, side as well as Back. The back is also very attractive with those square pixelated tail lights that run across the whole back width.
Adding to this, Company offers a 20-inch turbine design alloy wheel, which adds a very sharp look to the SUV. Hyundai Offers a total of three colors Optic white, Midnight Black pearl, Gravity gold matte. There is also an option for solar panel roof, It remains to be seen whether it will be offered in India or not.
Interior
Hyundai used good amount of eco-friendly and recyclable materials all over the interior, like the The seats are clad in an eco-processed leather that is dyed and treated with plant oil extractions from flaxseed, Surfaces such as the dashboard, switches, steering wheel and door panels are coated in a polyurethane bio paint composed of oils from rape flowers and corn.
IONIQ 5 gets a pair of 12.3 inch screens with unconventional white bezels. There is no center console, instead there is an arm rest that slides forward and backward all the way to the back seat. Also being electric we can’t see any bump or center tunnel, due to which the floor is completely flat and three people can comfortably sit in the rear seats.
Battery and Range
While Hyundai doesn’t reveal any figures related to the power or battery pack, it’s expected to get a 72.6kWh battery pack, that gives the SUV ARAI claimed range up to 631 km in single charge. The IONIQ 5 gets an all wheel-drive variant in the global market but in India it’s only offered with rear-wheel drive configuration.
With a 350kW DC ultra-fast charger, OINIQ 5 takes just 18 minutes to charge from 0 to 100 percent. But there is no single 350kW DC charger in India for now, You have to go overseas to enjoy Ultra-fast charging.
Power
Hyundai IONIQ 5’s single-motor variant produces 217hp and 350Nm of Max Torque. Which is not as much as a Kia EV6, which has a 325 hp and 605 Nm of Torque. The thing is INOQ 5 is a lot cheaper than EV6.
Expected Price and Launch Date
Hyundai IONIQ is a CKD (completely knock down) unit and fully assembled in India. due to which it’s available in more affordable pricing. The IONIQ 5 is expected to be priced between 45 Lakh to 50 Lakh (Ex-Showroom, Delhi). Just for comparison it’s sister cousin’s top model costs 64.95 Lakh (Ex-Showroom) whereas IONIQ 5’s top model costs 50 Lakh. Having a difference of 15 lakh in a price sensitive country like India, will definitely give edge to IONIQ 5 over EV6. The SUV will launch around January 2023.
