India’s largest car maker Maruti-Suzuki is finally on its way to launch its first electric car. which will make its first debut at Auto Expo 2023, Delhi. Also the codename of the upcoming EV is YY8, However, Being developed in collaboration with Toyota, it means that there are high chances that Toyota will rebadge this EV as well. The EV is Expected to launch by Early 2025, and starts the company’s Electric journey.
In terms of dimension, The Maruti Suzuki YY8 will have 4.2 meters of length and 2700mm of wheelbase, in comparison, Hyundai Creta’s length is 4300, which means it will be as big as Creta. With Expected starting price of 13-15 Lakhs, it will compete with cars like Tata Nexon EV and Nexon EV Max.
although, Maruti Suzuki doesn’t mentioned anything about powertrain, though, it’s expected to offered with two battery pack option a smaller one with 48kWh battery pack and larger one with 59kWh battery pack, While the former is expected to delivery a driving range of around 400km, while the latter version is estimated to deliver a driving range of 500km in single charge.
The EV will have LFP blade cells batteries from an Chinese manufacturer BYD, who claims Blade technology to be safer than FLP cylindrical cells which Tata Motors use in its EVs. The EV will produce power output somewhere between 138hp and 170hp.
